Farm Girl on the Front Lines: A Visit from Deborah Sampson

Deborah Sampson tells a story that excites, entertains, and educates. Against the backdrop of Colonial traditions and attitudes, as well as a country at war, Deborah's story reveals a character who modeled qualities we all want our children to develop. Through her story students learn the following: What life was like for a child without a family (who lived as an indentured servant) during the Colonial period as well the contrast between life for boys and for girls   What life was like for a soldier during the War and some of the positions a young soldier could fill   How Deborah used her innate tools (respect, responsibility, persistence, etc.) to pursue and achieve her dreams.   That they (students) have these same tools and can also use them to pursue and achieve their dreams Peppered with tongue-twisters, period games, and historical facts and trivia, this performance tells the story behind this famous, principled deception and the quiet rebel who pulled it off.
